How to make Facebook ads for a Shopify store in ChatGPT
ChatGPT can write the angles and the words for a Facebook ad and draw the picture. Your product, the sizes and your brand still need you, and Meta documents a way for ChatGPT to build the ad in your account.

You typed one line into ChatGPT, something like: make me a Facebook ad for my Shopify store. Something came back. A headline, a few lines of text, perhaps a picture.
It reads like an ad, and it could belong to any store that sells what you sell. One line tells ChatGPT very little about your store and nothing about your buyers, so it builds the ad from that line and from how ads usually sound.
You can make Facebook ads with ChatGPT, and it can write the angles and the words. Three things need you: the product in the picture, the shape each placement takes, and your brand next week. Publishing is a separate step, and Meta now documents a way for ChatGPT to do part of it.
Can ChatGPT create Facebook ads for a Shopify store
Yes, for the two parts of an ad it can reach in a chat: the words and the picture. OpenAI's pages show ChatGPT writing and rewriting text, and generating or editing an image from a prompt and a reference photo. Treat what comes back as a draft.
Start with the words. OpenAI's prompting page says to attach documents when you want ChatGPT to summarise, compare or transform them. For a store, paste in your reviews and ask for the reasons buyers give. Meta asks for ads that give different reasons to buy.
For the picture, OpenAI's image page says to attach a reference image to edit it or use it as visual guidance. It also says image availability and usage limits on the web depend on your plan and workspace settings, so check yours first.
ChatGPT prompts for Facebook ads that start from your own words
A good ChatGPT prompt for a Facebook ad names the goal, the context, the output and the boundaries, which is how OpenAI's prompting page lays it out. For an ad, the context is what you hand over first: your customers' own words, the one promise, and the claims you never make.
Say you sell walnut chopping boards. None of these prompts promises what comes back, so read every result as a draft.
- Find the reasons. Paste in five to ten real reviews or support emails, whole. Then ask: "Here are reviews of my walnut chopping boards. List the different reasons these buyers give for choosing one, in their words, and name the review each comes from."
- Write to one promise. Ask: "Write four versions of primary text and three headlines for the promise below. Never claim anything on the list under it. If you need a fact I have not given you, say what is missing instead of guessing." Then paste the reason you picked, and under it the claims you never make.
- Ask for the picture last. Attach your own product photograph. Then ask: "Image 1 is my product photo. Keep the product, its label and its shape exactly as photographed. Change only the background and the light. Leave the top third empty and put no text in the picture."
Add the length Meta recommends for each text field, which differs by placement. If your reviews are thin, the reasons will be thin, and no prompt adds buyers' words that were never written.
The product in the picture is yours to check
OpenAI's image page tells you to say what must stay the same when you edit a photo. It also says to review every word of dense copy or production-critical typography and finish it in a design tool when needed. A product label is lettering that has to be exactly right.
OpenAI's developer guide to its image model lists two limits that matter here. The model can still struggle with precise text placement and clarity, and it may occasionally struggle to keep brand elements visually consistent across generations.
Put the ad beside your real photograph and read the label letter by letter. Why a model redraws a label is in its own post, and the five checks before an AI ad runs cover the rest.
The sizes are yours to ask for and to check
Meta's ads guide lists 4:5 for a Facebook Feed image and 9:16 for Facebook Stories. For Stories it suggests leaving roughly 14 per cent of the top, 35 per cent of the bottom and 6 per cent of each side free of text and other key creative elements.
OpenAI's image page names dimensions among the details to put in a prompt, so ask for the ratio by name. It does not say which size a chat returns, so open the file and read its pixel size. The developer guide also lists composition control as a limit, so check where the words landed against that safe zone. Every placement and its size is in the sizes post.
Next week's chat needs your brand written down
ChatGPT can keep a brand if you put it where it will look. OpenAI's projects page says a project keeps chats, files and instructions together, that the instructions apply across its chats, and that you start a new chat from the project to use them. OpenAI's personalisation page says memories carry useful context from earlier chats, and separates them from required project guidance.
So the rules that must hold every time belong in the project's instructions, written by you: your colours, how you sound, the claims you never make. You manage memories under Settings, then Personalization.
When the packaging changes or a claim is struck out, the instructions change only when you change them. Writing your brand down once covers what to put in them.
Can ChatGPT run Facebook ads
Partly, through a connector Meta documents. Meta's help page lists ChatGPT among the AI agents that can use its ads MCP server, which lets an agent create and edit ads, ad sets and campaigns and pull reports. It is an open beta, and ads it creates are paused until you set them live.
An MCP server is the link between an AI agent and an ad account. Meta says you may not have access to every tool yet, and that any action taken on your behalf needs your authorisation through the AI agent. If you have full control of a business portfolio, you can set rules for what agents may do on each ad account, such as editing budgets or creating campaigns.
Meta's page links to OpenAI's page on adding a custom MCP server for the ChatGPT steps. That page says write actions require confirmation by default and warns that incorrect ones can destroy, alter or share data. OpenAI also documents ChatGPT Work using a browser on sites you sign in to, but neither company's page names Ads Manager for that route, so check before you try it.
What Nomi does with the photograph and the brand
Nomi starts from the photograph you attach. Its ad creative page says the shape, packaging, label text, colours and logos are copied exactly, and only the light, the background and the props change. You still compare the result with your photograph before it runs.
It also starts from your brand. Its brand context page says it reads your site and drafts what you sell, how you sound and what your pictures obey, and you keep or change each answer once.
